Exploring the Cosmos: 'SPACE' at Tewkesbury Abbey

Following the success of the breathtaking Gaia exhibition that brought a giant Earth to life, Tewkesbury Abbey now invites visitors to experience SPACE – a stunning sound and light installation by Luxmuralis.

As you step into the 900-year-old Abbey, you will embark on a celestial journey through the vastness of the universe. Gaze upon emerging galaxies, marvel at planetary exploration, and immerse yourself in the wonders of outer space, all while surrounded by stunning projections that transform the Abbey’s historic architecture into a canvas of cosmic beauty.

SPACE is a creation of Luxmuralis, an artistic collaboration known for their captivating light installations, which have graced some of England’s most iconic cathedrals and churches. This event marks their return to Tewkesbury, three years after the Festival of Lights installation in 2021. 

The journey begins as you enter the Abbey through the North Door, shrouded in darkness. As you make your way around the sacred space, vibrant projections illuminate different areas of the building, each corner revealing new facets of the universe. Accompanied by an immersive soundscape, the experience evokes a sense of awe and wonder, as if travelling through the far reaches of space itself.

The installation culminates with a striking image of Earth seen from the depths of space, under a galaxy of stars—a humbling reminder of our place in the cosmos.

Tickets

Tickets must be bought in advance and can be purchased from The Roses Theatre website - with adult tickets priced at £12, children at £10, and under 3s free of charge. The experience is expected to last around 45 minutes but visitors are welcome to stay as long as they like.
