Nostalgia Unleashed: The Rich History of Badsey Flower Show

From its humble beginnings in a meadow adjacent to the old Vicarage in 1888, the Badsey Flower Show has become a beloved community tradition, attracting locals and visitors alike for over a century. Notwithstanding interruptions due to world wars, a pandemic, and floods, the Show continues to grow and evolve, maintaining its essence while introducing new elements to reflect the changing times.

Early records of the Flower Show reveal its vibrant past, with comments from the 1900 show underscoring its appeal to all age groups. Its transition to the Recreation Ground in the 1920s marked the beginning of its transformation into the multifaceted event it is today. Despite the many changes over the years, the Badsey Flower Show has retained its core aim of fostering community spirit and celebrating local talent.

This year, we're thrilled to commemorate the 120th edition of the Show. To mark this milestone, we're hosting a special exhibition and releasing a book titled "Celebrating the 120th Show". Authored by Maureen Spinks, the book presents a comprehensive history of the Badsey Flower Show, tracing its journey from the inaugural event to the present day.

We're keen to include as many perspectives as possible in this project, especially memories and photographs from the 1960s up to the year 2000.

To support this project and secure a copy of the book, you're invited to pre-order at a special price of £5. Pre-orders can be placed via the form on our website. Subscribers will have their names listed in the book and can collect their copies at the Flower Show on 29th July 2023. For those unable to collect their copies in person, we offer hand-delivery to addresses in Badsey, Aldington, and Wickhamford.

Join us in celebrating the rich history of the Badsey Flower Show and becoming part of its ongoing legacy. Your contribution will help ensure the Show continues to thrive and inspire future generations.
